Kigali, 8th March – In efforts towards enhancing digital security, Irembo announced its successful attainment of compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS) in December 2023.
This achievement marks a crucial milestone for Irembo and sets the stage for more secure access to and payment for government services on the IremboGov platform.

The PCI DSS is a set of security standards designed to ensure the protection of sensitive payment card data during their processing, transmission, and storage. Irembo’s adherence to these standards signifies a commitment to safeguarding financial transactions and sensitive information, reducing the risk of credit card fraud, data breaches, and unauthorized access to cardholder information.
“PCI DSS compliance enhances IremboGov’s security, reassuring users about transaction safety and bolstering its reputation as a dependable payment platform. It enables wider payment options, including credit and debit cards, thereby increasing user convenience and accessibility to government services. The journey to compliance likely involved process optimization and technology upgrades, streamlining payment procedures for all parties. It confirms Irembo’s adherence to industry standards, minimizing legal and financial risks. This accreditation is a milestone towards ongoing improvement, with Irembo continuously refining security and adapting to evolving threats and regulations to ensure sustained payment data protection.” – Israel Bimpe CEO of Irembo.

The PCI DSS comprises security standards meticulously crafted to safeguard sensitive payment card data throughout processing, transmission, and storage. Collaborating with the skilled team at IREMBO, the Digital Jewels team, a trailblazing IT GRC Firm specializing in Cyber Excellence, spearheaded the efficient and effective implementation of the PCI DSS standard. This involved deploying technologies and developing processes alongside the necessary skills and competencies to safeguard payment card data. IremboGov ‘s adherence to these standards signifies a commitment to safeguarding financial transactions and sensitive information, reducing the risk of credit card fraud, data breaches, and unauthorized access to cardholder information.
This achievement follows Irembo’s official recognition as a Data Controller and Data Processor by the Data Protection and Privacy Office of the National Cyber Security Authority last year. This notable step underscores Irembo’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding citizen data in compliance with Rwanda’s Data Protection and Privacy Law.

“In today’s digital landscape, strategic and secure performance requires the transformative potential of IT, unleashed when approached judiciously and governed effectively. Conversely, haphazard deployment can lead to increased costs, diminished value, and heightened risk exposure, placing organizations at a competitive disadvantage.
The rapid evolution of IT capabilities, particularly accelerated by the onset of the pandemic, presents both opportunities and risks. As technology adoption proliferates, so too do the risks. Responsible companies are turning to globally recognized standards as a means to manage these risks effectively. IREMBO is one such company that has taken proactive steps to implement and certify to one global best practice standard – the PCI DSS.” – Adedoyin-Odunfa CEO of Digital Jewels.
